Overview

The Island

Lundey sits just off the Reykjavík coastline, a low, grassy island that serves as a nesting ground for roughly 10,000 Atlantic puffins every summer. Most visitors see it from the deck of a slow whale watching boat, if they notice it at all. This tour puts you on a jet ski aimed directly at it, crossing Faxaflói bay with the city skyline behind you and the mountains of the Reykjanes Peninsula ahead.

The Ride

The tour launches from the Reykjavík area. After a safety briefing and full gear-up in drysuits and fleece underlayers, you ride out along the coastline, passing Harpa and the harbour before opening up across the bay toward Lundey. Near the island, the pace drops. Binoculars come out. The guides handle photography while you watch puffins dive, circle, and land on the cliffs. The return route picks up speed again, with Esja and on clear days Snæfellsjökull filling the horizon. Total ride time is roughly one hour on the water, with the rest spent on briefing and gear.

The Local Difference

The operation is run by two brothers who grew up on this coastline. The jet skis are fully automatic and stable enough for two riders, which means a parent and child share a machine rather than splitting up. This is for travelers who want a fast, physical way to see wildlife near Reykjavík without sitting on a crowded boat for three hours. It is not for those looking for a quiet bird-watching excursion or a standard harbour cruise.

Had so much fun we went twice in two days! This is a family run business and the whole family was wonderful - we were especially impressed with Gudjon's warmth and charisma. Don't miss your chance to get on (and in) the water!

This is a must when visiting Iceland and see the city from ocean view and the surrounding islands with all the wildlife. Brand new jetskis and the guides are really good and safety first oriented. We had a family day and all of us are still smiling. You might think its cold but the gear they provide takes care of that. Dont skip this one.

Last minute decision to see the puffins and we are so glad we did! None of us had jet skied before and the experience is perfect for beginners and experts alike! Amazing views, great guide, friendly family business. Fully equipped and they were right - you only need to bring dry socks and a sense of fun and adventure! Didn’t feel rushed, lots of opportunities to see Reykjavík from the sea. Highly recommended. Thanks again.

We had an amazing tour with Guðjón! My 8-year old daughter and I decided last minute to book a jet ski tour, and Reykjavik Jetskis accommodated us. All of the staff were patient, especially when my daughter briefly panicked because of the dry suit neck gasket feeling constrictive. We toured out to Puffin Island, which was the highlight of the tour for my daughter, and we had plenty of time to do donuts and other play moves on the jet ski, which was the highlight for me.
